² clinical psychologist, physiotherapist and movement scientist is mental health advisor of Medicins Sans Frontières
³ psychiatrist, trained psychoanalyst and group psychotherapist. He is the emeritus director of the Sinai Center in the Netherlands for treatment of victims of the Nazi Holocaust and their children. He has many years of experience in clinical supervision. He has been treating victims of man-made disaster for many years and is a trainer and supervisor to centers treating refugees in Europe

This article describes clinical supervision of counsellors as a structured process that encompasses emotional support, education and monitoring of professional performance. It is based on the experiences of the authors while supervising counsellors with limited professional education in areas of armed conflict.
